Not October....SOCKTOBER!!!

Attention all first grade families:  WE NEED YOUR HELP!

You will be receiving a blue letter pertaining to our latest project in first grade.  Here is a snippet from www.happysocktober.com.

THERE ARE 600,000 PEOPLE WITHOUT A HOME ON ANY GIVEN NIGHT IN THE UNITED STATES. THIS OCTOBER, SOULPANCAKE AND KID PRESIDENT WANT ONE MILLION PEOPLE TO PROVE THAT EVEN THE SMALLEST ACTS OF LOVE, LIKE DONATING A PAIR OF SOCKS, CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF THE HOMELESS

Our first grade classes will be competing in the Kid President's Socktober challenge!
Check out what Kid President has to say about Socktober!

Did you watch the video?  PLEASE watch the video.  It is hilarious AND really motivated the kids to help those in need.  We talked all about wants vs. needs and discussed homelessness after watching the video.  The kids were incredibly moved and decided it would be AWESOME to lead the charge in making sure Socktober is a success!  We brainstormed ways to get the word out about our cause, and we came up with ideas ranging from writing a newspaper article, designing and handing out flyers, making yard signs, designing and printing T-Shirts, and making a video showcasing what Socktober is all about.  Ms. Upah and I divided our class into 10 committees which will be in charge of planning and creating various promotional items to support our cause.

Ms. Upah and I are SUPER excited about this student-led, teacher-guided project!  Stay tuned for more information!
