Karen and Aaron Came to Visit!

Sorry I've sort of taken a break from our blog!  It's been a crazy couple of weeks!

Here are some pictures of 1H after reading The Mitten.  We discussed animal habitats and each student was invited into the mitten, posing as an animal found in Iowa in the wild.

Carson chose to be a badger!  Plenty of space in the mitten!

Next joins Noah and Tierney, a bobcat and a turtle!  Getting a little crowded, but still doing fine!

After packing in everyone else, here comes DJ, the bear!

There is room for the bear, but we need space for one more...our mouse, Justess, is yet to find a spot!  Below is what happens when the mouse tickles the bear's nose in the mitten habitat...

They ALL FALL OUT!

This lesson was great and taught the kids all about how each animal needs its own space to live.  It really tied in to our previous discussion about basic needs, with an emphasis on the idea of shelter.

We love when Karen and Aaron come to visit because we get to learn about all kinds of things found in nature.  We've learned about bats, Native Americans, and animal habitats.  Soon, we'll learn about owls and examine REAL owl pellets.  While some might be a bit squeamish to dig into a live owl pellet, MOST really enjoy the activity because we get to find out what the owl had for dinner by identifying the bones!  Such a great exercise in inferring!
