Your child has chosen to either be a South Pole Explorer on a mission to research penguins, or a North Pole Explorer, who's in charge of researching polar bears! We talked at length about how penguins and polar bears in the wild live at opposite ends of the earth.
During this month-long unit, we will research penguins and polar bears in collaborative teams. We've already started reading related books for information, visiting relevant websites, and watching LIVE webcams of each animal! (Recess was inside today. We had a class zoo with little penguins wobbling around and polar bears hunting for seals, so it would be an understatement to say they were super excited about the live webcams we watched during snack!)
Here are a few scenes from polar bear and penguin research teams in 1H:
Here are the links for the live webcams! Live penguin feedings are 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.!

We will have a culminating Polar Bear and Penguin Presentation Day on February 10th! Our North Pole and South Pole researchers will present their findings to each other and you using a variety of tech resources. We are SUPER EXCITED to have the opportunity to participate in another virtual field trip with the Omaha Zoo this day as well! We'll discuss all kinds of information related to polar bears and penguins and see and speak with the zookeepers live, as well as get a tour of the arctic animal exhibit!
You are CORIDALLY INVITED! Stay tuned for more information.
Mrs. H :)
