Owen & Mzee


This week, we've been talking about how good readers compare and contrast while reading fiction and nonfiction.  After reading aloud the story Owen & Mzee: The True Story of a Remarkable Friendship, we discussed the ways in which Owen, an orphaned hippopotamus, and Mzee (pronounced ma-ZAY), an Aldabra giant tortoise, two unlikely pals, are alike and different.  To do this, we made a class Venn Diagram and brainstormed together.



Then, we split into groups and made our own comparisons and contrasts between Owen and Mzee.  We talked about physical characteristics and personality traits.
