We recently started our unit on Pebbles, Sand & Silt. We've learned about igneous rock (volcanic rock) and have started talking about metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. This is a very hands-on unit where the kids will be out collecting rocks to add to our class rock collection, discuss ways to sort the rocks, learn about where the rocks come from and what they're made from, and how we use rocks today.
Here are just a couple of scenes of 1H investigating three types of volcanic rock. Ask your child about basalt, tuff, and scoria!
