You'll notice a couple of notes in your child's folder today.
1. The purple half sheet from Mrs. Bishop, our Guidance Counselor, asking your permission to work with your child in small groups periodically throughout the year. (This needs to be returned at your earliest convenience.)
2. A white half-sheet about water bottles. Your child is allowed to bring a small, plastic or metal water bottle to school. This water bottle needs to be able to be refilled by your child and must have your child's initials or name somewhere on it. These will be sent home each Friday to be washed and can then be returned to school the following Monday.
3. A full pink sheet about your child's Take Home Book. Each day, your child will receive a Take Home Book to read with you. This book will be at your child's instructional reading level (approximately), which means there will be a few words which will be tricky. Your support in helping your child read this book successfully is key. There is a green wheel of common decoding strategies tucked inside the bag along with a blue sheet for you to fill out each time your child reads a book. Please include the date, indicate the name of the book, sign your name, and leave any comments about the book (typically whether it was too easy, too hard, or just right for your child). You may notice the book I've sent home with your child tonight might be too easy. That was purposeful on my part, and I will adjust the levels accordingly as we get into the swing of things :)
Today, we played a game with a partner called Dappy Shake-up. In this game, students were asked to use counters to find as many combinations of five as they could. They helped each other write addition sentences to match.
