Alzheimer's Memory Walk + Salsa Making

We had a couple of special events last week we wanted to share with you.

Here are some scenes from our Memory Walk.  Students collected $650 for Alzheimer's research.  As a result, Mrs. Fisher will dress like a minion, Mrs. Bridgewater will dress like a grandma, and Nurse Jamie will take a mud bath!

Last Wednesday, we also made salsa using our fresh vegetables we harvested from our Outdoor Learning Space.  Candi and Mrs. Anderson shared their recipes for fresh salsa.  They helped us chop sweet peppers, jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, cilantro, and onions.  As we chopped the veggies, we investigated what the vegetables looked like, smelled like, felt like, and tasted like.  The kids were fascinated by the different textures, smells, and flavors.

We recorded our observations in our scientific notebooks, drawing pictures and writing words to show our learning.

Lastly, and most importantly, we tasted our creation!  We wrote words to describe the taste, texture, and smell when all ingredients were mixed together.  I was pleasantly surprised at how many tried it and liked it!  I had several students tell me their favorite part was the onions!
