We will be starting a new math activity called scroll-making. For this activity, students will write their numbers from 1 to 100, check with a teacher, then attach it to a toilet paper roll. Next, they will write their numbers from 101-200, check in again, and attach it to the previous sheet on the roll. This continues on and on. Three years ago, I had a student make her scroll as long as the gym in Van Horne Elementary! I don't recall now how far she got in her number writing, but it was certainly impressive (at least into the 3,000s!)
The kiddos are very excited to begin this project, but we need toilet paper rolls if you have any. Please send them with your child. Any extras will be saved for next year or put in our Makerspace!
