Scenes from Daily Five in 1H

I just thought I'd share with you some scenes from our Read to Self launch the first week of school.  Notice how engaged they are!  This group loves to read and write.

That's Logan, by the way, tucked into a corner!  They love to hang out in the oddest places!  (And it's NOT just to hide from Mrs. Happel....they just love quiet little corners!)

Notice their book boxes.  Each child has his or her own book box for their time in first grade.  It contains books that 1)serve a Purpose (Reading for information?  Reading for fun?), 2) Interest them (Wow!  Do these kids love information books about animals...and that's awesome), 3) we can Comprehend (Does this make sense as I read it?), and 4) we Know most of the words from.  We call this process IPICK.  Ask your child about Good Fit Books, shoes (trust me...they'll know what you're talking about!), and IPICK!

The kids also love to use our crate seats.  Cheap + Easy = Awesome!
