Fire Truck Rides and Science Update

October is such a busy time!  One of my favorite months, but one of the busiest as well!  So, you're getting an all-encompassing post this time about just some of the things happening in 1H.

Fire Truck Rides!
Volunteers from the Van Horne Fire Department came a couple of weeks ago to speak with the kiddos about fire safety and fire prevention.  They always look forward to this for a couple of reasons: 1) Firefighters ROCK!, 2) They bring cool equipment to look at, 3) They bring Junior Firefighter helmets and coloring books!, 4) WE GET TO RIDE THE FIRE TRUCK! :)

I, unfortunately, did not ride this year due to my ever-expanding waistline, but I got to see the kids off, which was great for picture-taking!

Science Update
Last week, the weather was nice, so we chose to take advantage of the warm, sunny day!  We went outside to do our fall tree observation.  We took our science notebooks, pencils, and crayons/colored pencils to record in our notebooks some of our observations about our trees.

Some collected leaf samples from the ground and included them in their notebooks.  We noticed many of the trees are beginning to become "bare", and we discussed this vocabulary word.  Students were asked to draw a picture of their trees exactly as they saw them.  Later, we compared our drawings from August to our drawings now in October and noted the changes.
