Socktober!

There are 600,000 people without a home on any given night in the United States.  This October, SoulPancake and Kid President want one million people to prove that even the smallest acts of love, like donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of the homeless!
(Check out Kid President's video!)

Over the next few weeks, students will be working to promote our Socktober project in a variety of ways, including but not limited to posters, flyers, a mug design, a t-shirt design, a letter or two to the editor, videos, and through a variety of techie-type resources :)

The first graders are super excited to be leading this charge.  The conversation we've heard between them is truly joyful noise.  Our goal is to collect over 1,000 socks this month!

We will be collecting new socks of all sizes through the end of the month.  Students will be planning and creating the items listed above to promote their cause and share this project in the community.  Only first names will be placed on the various promotional items.  At the end of the month, all socks will be donated to Olivet Neighborhood Mission in Cedar Rapids.  This is typically on a Saturday morning.  All families are invited to help drop off socks, and we usually grab some IHOP afterward to celebrate! :)  Be looking for more information about that!

In the past, families have really helped spread the word.  We received socks from all over the WORLD last year!  We were able to donate over 1,000 socks to Olivet Neighborhood Mission.  Please, tell everyone you know!  Social media is a great way to help spread the word.

If you know of anyone how would like to donate, please have them send socks to the following:

Keystone Elementary
c/o First Grade Socktober
280 4th St.
Keystone, IA 52249

**Please have your donations include a note stating who the items are from and how the person donating heard about our project.  We keep track of all of this information and share any notes of encouragement included!  We LOVE reading these!

If you have questions at all about this project, please contact us!

Happy Socktober!
