"I Can" Statements: Week of November 9th

Here are this week's "I Can" statements.  Please note, we are starting a new math topic.  We will be moving on to addition and subtraction concepts.  These are HUGE first grade skills.  Keep an eye out for a future post featuring some apps/online resources and activities you can use to support your child.

I can...
  • read and write words with CVCe long i (mine, time, bite, etc.)
  • associate the long i sound with the CVCe pattern ("magic e")
  • substitute medial (middle) sounds in words.
  • use proper punctuation while writing.
  • write a personal narrative with characters, a setting, a problem, and a solution with at least two sequenced events.
  • identify the sequence of events in a text by using signal words (first, then, next, last/finally)
  • recognize the number of objects in a patterned arrangement without counting (ten frames, dominoes)
  • understand that two parts, when put together, equal one whole (part + part = whole)

Have a great week!
Mrs. Happel
