Exploring Parachutes

Today we spent some time talking about parachutes after exploring the large parachute in P.E. with Mrs. Galbraith.  We discussed what parachutes are used for, what they look like, and how we thought they worked.  It was exciting to hear students use vocabulary we've discussed so far: air, wind, speed, direction.

Then, we spent some time building our own parachutes out of materials found here at school.  After building, students had an opportunity to test them out.  Some brainstormed how best to make their parachutes "fly" better with specific launching techniques.  Students also drew and wrote their findings in their science notebooks.
