What's Happening in 1H?
Take Home Books: Please continue to read with your child nightly. When you finish a book, write the title on the sheet included in your child's Take Home Book Bag, sign it, write a brief comment or two about how it went, and send it with your child back to school to receive a new one.
Water Bottles: Just a quick reminder--water bottles are encouraged in first grade. They help keep the kiddos hydrated and cut down on lines at the drinking fountain. Please just make sure your child's name is written somewhere on the bottle. They need to be reusable, plastic, and a smaller size, if possible. These will be sent home once per week to be washed and returned.
Allergen Information: We DO NOT have any peanut or tree nut allergies at Van Horne Elementary this year. This means your child may bring PB and J, granola bars, etc. for sack lunch if you wish.
Birthday Treats: We haven't had any birthdays yet in 1H, but when we do, your child may bring a special birthday treat if you wish. This is NOT REQUIRED and is entirely optional as we are providing daily snack at VHE. This would just be an additional treat (if you choose to send special birthday treats.)
NEW--Take Home Writing Journals: Your child will be receiving a Take Home Writing Journal this week. Along with the Take Home Book your child reads nightly, he/she will also be writing in the journal nightly and returning it to school to read to me at some point during the day. Your child can write about anything he/she wishes and may draw pictures to accompany their writing, Please make sure your child writes with a pencil. Please use the front and back of each page in the journal to save paper :) I look forward to reading/listening to what your child has written!
I believe that's it for now! Please continue to email, send notes, or call with any questions!
Mrs. H
